At a very basic level though, a Career Conversation is:
“An ongoing dialogue between a coach (or manager/mentor) and an individual, focused on helping the individual make career related decisions and deal with career related issues”.
At The Careers Company irrespective of who the conversation is with (Manager, HR Professional or a Career Coach) we can make it more effective.
What can The Careers Company do for my team/ organisation?
Simple. We provide the tools, techniques and processes for Career Conversations to occur.
At the heart of our offering are 1:1 Career Coaching packages offered to both individual clients or those who form part of an organisation. There are 3 different “packages” to choose from depending on the career stage of the individual (Early Careers, Executive Careers and Second Act Careers). Irrespective of the different stages you can be assured that you will be partnered with one of our professional, accredited career coaches.
Through our Career Conversation with my team interventions we equip managers to play their part in the organisation’s career development system. Our career coaching upskilling programmes are designed to build the capability and confidence of managers for higher quality Career Conversations. We tailor these to your organisational context and can run them at your organisation or online.
Finally, we realise that there may be gaps in your organisation’s overall career development system for effective Career Conversations. Our signature Employee Career Paths process can help organisations demonstrate to their employee base the stimulating and rewarding careers on offer.
Your questions answered: Coaching clients
What is career coaching and who can it help?
Career Coaching is a partnership between a coach and a client essentially to support the client with career related decisions (e.g. choosing a career, switching careers) or career related issues (getting promoted, obtaining a better work/life balance, dealing more effectively with colleagues). We help clients at all life and career stages - at the start, mid-career transition or those reviewing pre-retirement choices.
How many meetings will I need?
This largely depends on the area that you need support with, but most clients need 6 sessions over a 4-6 month period.
What happens at the Discovery Call?
One of the things that distinguishes a great coaching partnership is chemistry. The Discovery Call is therefore primarily aimed at getting to know your coach, the way they work etc. It’s also a chance for the coach to help clarify the client’s goals, challenges and needs. At the call the logistics (timing, number of sessions, location, cost etc.) of the coaching partnership will be set out. Finally, the call is a chance to get your questions answered!
What are the costs?
These vary by the level of the client (if you are starting out in your career or more experienced). We can walk you through the detail at the Discovery Meeting.
